Hey Folks,

Clearly we've done a terrible job of updating our blog / site. Very sorry about that. Things behind the curtain have been a bit busier, though. So i'll let you in.

Our songs should have found their ways into various and sundry websites that sell music online including iTunes thanks to our good friends over at Ingrooves. Stop by any and grab a copy of the Somnambulist before the circuits rust.

You can also find a house / electro remix of Organic Debris available across the web as well. If you buy the album and want a free copy of the Aman Amun remix just shoot us an email.

The month of August offered CA some good shows. Not only did the University of Georgia student union give us an opportunity to play on a fabulously ornate stage alongside Abbey Road Live in an event called Dawgstock but we got to open for College Radio favorites Oxford Collapse and Love As Laughter. Bundles of joy.

We've put together a number of songs we're preparing to record. Expect us to break our terrible trend of waiting an eternity between recordings. We'll give you something new to listen and look at soonly. A new website is on its way as well.

love and a diabetic dog.

Here's some more of us in the media. The Red and Black article is an interview Alex and I did. The AbsolutePunk link is a review by a friend and fan, Dylan Guy. I hope you don't mind me using this blog for keeping record of this stuff... enjoy:

-The Red and Black
-Flagpole: "Athens/ Atlanta band Crumbling Arches is the latest example of a local band that, in an attempt to showcase its diversity of sounds, throws everything against the wall to see what sticks. And, judging from the tracks on The Somnambulist, the band has an awfully sticky wall."

i just posted some new pictures from recording in the pictures section... most of them are pretty old, but it helps give the idea of the number of places we've gone to record this album. we have some new shirts and posters for sale, they are pretty nifty, perhaps i'll set up a system for online sales eventually.

the album is coming along. the artwork is looking ridiculously good.
the title is going to be "the somnambulist."

somnambulist

noun
someone who walks about in their sleep [syn: sleepwalker]

Finado!

So, we finally finished recording on the long awaited full length about two weeks ago. We've been in the process of mixing and getting artwork set up to make a package out of it, and should have it ready sometime in May. Stay tuned and we'll get you presale info soonish. For all of your pleasure here's the tracklisting:

1. Ballad P1 : Two-Faced Savior
2. Voice of Reason
3. DJ Dormio
4. The Preachings of Priamides
5. My Ressurection
6. The Rally of Don Jocabin
7. Mundane Patterns
8. Ballad P2: Renegaid Sailor
9. Ocean Interlude
10. Senor Nonchelant
11. Miserati
12. Ballad P3: Stone-Faced Admiral
13. Organic Debris
14. Looking Forward to Never Looking Back

In the meantime, we've been writing new material (which we've been wanting to do for a while) and getting some live stuff together. We bought some new lights which we've been messing with a bit, and working on a live song or two, so make it out to a show if you get a chance.

We're sort of doing some pinwheeling and mini-touring over this summer. If you want us to play in your area and are willing to help us get a show, we're probably willing to play it. Contact us if you're interested. Now is a really important time for us, so it would help us out if you could tell everyone you know about the band, bring it up in conversation as much as possible, post it on your blog's and get people joining our facebook group and mailing list.

We're playing a show next week at The Masquerade in Atlanta in Hell that we're hoping to make relatively epic. We have presale tickets available for that show here. Buy them, show up, give them your name, and you'll be let in. Hoorah for digital simplicity...

brian's sleepy and nonsensical diological dissertation:

you:
"hey (brian, ian, alex, zach), when is your next show in my town?"
us: "we'll ___________, at the moment we find ourselves sitting on a temporary show-break. we'll get some stuff booked for march eventually, but we've decided to keep things sparse so we can work on making live versions of some of our new material from the album and get a lot of stuff recorded"
you: "when is the album going to be done?"
us: "we still don't know"
you: "are you ever going to finish?"
us: "we hope so"
you: "can i dig up your dead great aunt and eat her remains?"
us: "not until the album is finished"

in the meantime, i have a surprise or two up my sleeve.... but you'll just have to wait on such tings.

Recording has been a rather nocturnal process. We've been getting a lot of things done over break; definitely expect the unexpected on the record. Big Queen-like vocal parts will not be out of the picture, i promise you.

In case you didn't know, the record has three songs divided throughout it that, in case you didn't understand the story lyrically, spell things out on very flat terms so that you can get the gist of the story even if you don't understand the subtleties added by the other songs. Until now we've called these songs "the ballads" (ballad p1, ballad p2, and ballad p3). Now they will be known respectively as "The Two Faced Savior" "The Renegade Sailor" and "The Stone-Faced Admiral." These are some of the last songs on the record that we planned to record, and the first two are getting close to finished, so we're getting close. High Fives?!?!?

things are lightening up a bit so we're going to get back into recording mode and see if we can get some out of state stuff goin on. hooray. we have a facebook group now for you facebookians... stop by and joinify now here. we'll be using it in addition to our other tools to keep folks updated on whats happening.

The Story Thus Far:

1. the site is once again up after a fierce battle between mr. brian mcgaw, a hacker, and a dash of apathetic induced laziness. i wonder if anyone noticed that it was down...

2. the priamides video is up on myspace and on youtube... neato. perhaps view it and let us know what you think.

3. next CA stop is at the eyedrum in atlanta. we're psyched to get a chance to play at this gallery, the set will be speckled with interesting stuff.

the new outkast album is spiffy, the new muse album is neato, and the new mars volta album drops tuesday the 12th. hooray for new music.

I am ashamed to say that we've hopped a month in the ramble process. I wont allow it to slack like so any longer. From now on, ramblement will commence AT LEAST once a month... the more the better.

I just got back from a swellerific trip to Costa Rica. I got to touch a very squid-like octopus while scuba diving, i watched a 9 year old zip line, i smelt fresh horse dung, and got to taste one of these crazy fruits (among other things).

We've been busy with stuff, but thanks to all you folks who made it out to the Hard Rock and 585 shows. Next stop is the Charlotte Warped Tour, then we move on to Athens to introduce to them the hefty and sweaty monkey-rat that is alterna-theatrical rock. Huzzah! Huzzah! And onwards!

Greetings and salutations, fellow travelers upon this digital tundra. I must say, the there are a lot more bugs upon this permafrosted plain than one might expect.

On to more pressing news. We, (by 'we' I am referring to the industrious members of Crumbling Arches and whichever other entities that might reside within our magic bubbles) have been busy little bodies this week, let me tell you. We've been endeavoring to film a Preachings of Priamides music video with the illustrious Jordan Taratoot and the magnanamous Jason Conger. It is going swimingly, to be sure. It will feature Max Flick and be interspersed with some awesome footage of us at the green screen at Georgia Tech. Needless to say, we're extremely exicited.

In other news, we've gotten our sampler for the up coming album mastered, we went to a soggy but invigorating gay pride parade, Ianry learned to play guitar and ride a unicycle simultaneously, and we should be played on 99X again in the not-to-distant future. So listen for the locals spot and email Dekker when you can.

And now I must repose. Stop by our show this Friday at the Hardrock. 'twill be festive.

smooches,
Zachary

I suppose we owe you fine folks an update...

Recording is going dandily. We have 5/15 songs pretty much done and we're working on two more. We understand our obvious inability to set a deadline for this project that we can hold up to with the luxery of time and without the luxery of money, but never-the-less we trudge on. From our viewpoint nothing must be ignored or sacrificed in the creative process, and we promise you that its paying off in the end result. We have the fundimental guitar/bass/drums done on the rest of them but here's all the stuff we have left:

-vocals on 7 songs
-horns
-pianos
-accordian
-concert percussion (timpanis and such)
-extra percussion (secret)

In the meantime we're going to see if we can throw some things together to keep the attention of you beautiful people...

greetings dudes and dudettes.
right now i sit in the fine flat foothills of maryland. we're wonderfully and niftily placed within the vacation home of the friend of a family friend. things are neat. rather than disclosing everything about the trip and experience we've been filming everything off the wazoo which we'll make available as a video blog on our myspace page called "Maryland Memories; The Tragic Tale of Arthur McDoodle." there's no tragic tale involved, yet, but that title makes it sound pretty intense.

be sure to check out the cingular studio myspace page because it will have the first installment of our band-blog, of sorts, featured. we call the "legends of the hidden temple," we're not entirely sure why, but we liked the tv show when we were youg-uns.

perhaps you notice the theme of random titles.

Hello my children. I have a series of commands for thee; follow them or you will suffer a very uncomfortable fate concerning a grapefruit, a plunger, and the peak of mt. everest.

1. we were chosen to participate in a partnership between Cingular and Myspace giving us the ability to sell our song, "the preachings of priamides," as a ringtone. its neat, so go buy it.

2. we're getting some spins on the buzz tomorrow (wednesday) at 8:00pm. thanks to sir aaron hickman, the dj for homegrown buzz, for hooking us up with such an opportunity.

3. stop by our myspace page after 4:30pm tomorrow and check out our new tune. get your fat uncle ted to stop by and take a listen too... he needs the head-banging exercise.

4. perhaps help us out and buy your presale tickets for the may 15 show at the masquerade nowish off this here site or from us in person. the rocket summer and paramore beg you... we dont, we just stand to the side and watch them beg you and look cool...

Hello and good evening to all of you lonely cyber meanderers. My esteemed brotha' Ian and I have rescently returned from Merlefest and picked up quite a hefty deal of southern culture along the way. One thing that I learned during our nocturnal return really has nothing to do with southern culture, but might be mildly interesting all the same. It was actually part of a university study that I heard on the radio somewheres between nowheres.
Did you know: that the best time to ask a favor of someone is betweeen the hours of 9-11 am. That people are more likely to grant a request if you give them the option not to. And that they will more readily grant an obscure absurdly specific request than a common one (ie. "Could I have 37 cents" as opposed to "could I have a quarter"
And with this wonderfully edifying tidbit of trivia I implore you to go out into the world and, with God's spead, extort to your little hearts delight.

love and a lonely heart.
Zachary

Did you know it costs 1.5 cents to make a penny? hmmmmmmm

According to one news article from 2002, "scientists" have proven the following to be the funniest joke in the world:

"Two hunters are out in the woods when one of them collapses. He doesn't seem to be breathing and his eyes are glazed. The other guy whips out his phone and calls the emergency services. He gasps: "My friend is dead! What can I do?" The operator says: "Calm down, I can help. First, let's make sure he's dead." There is a silence, and then a shot is heard. Back on the phone, the guy says: "OK, now what?"

Now, I’m not one to be super-critical (some people are laughing their rectal cavities off at me saying that), but I would rate that joke probably a 4 on the funny scale. All it got out of me was a subtle "humph." To be more thorough, here's another quote from the article:

"Careful analysis of the data revealed that people found the jokes funniest on the 7th October at 6.03 in the evening. "Perhaps we have scientifically discovered the funniest moment of the year," researchers added."

To me this is a huge shocker... i had always believed that 4:34pm on July 19 was the funniest moment of the year. I can't possibly conceive of all the funny things that could happen at 6:03pm on October 7th.

the world is most assuredly coming to an end.

for all of you who keep on asking, no we still cannot release phantom. we still havn't gotten the rights to use the song, and unless you're willing to front the money for the multi-quadrillion dollar lawsuit that may follow if we didnt settle this crap then you best have some patience. in the meantime slake your thirst with complaints and discussion about how much you want to hear it on our message board. it longs for you.... go to it.

Hello all! This is the elusive and slightly embittered Zachary, coming to you from the frightening abyss of cyber space. I was derriding Brian for his wayward tardiness in posting on the sight when I realized that I was Indeed far more remiss, being that I have never posted before/ So hello and I love you all.

On a more relevant note, we've completed our recorded rendition of Phantom of the Opera and are eagerly awaiting its Myspace release, so if you're happy and you know it, clap your hands!

I don't know what the deal is with the turkish hackers, but I find them rather amusing. the text at the bottom is actually the turkish anthem (a guess that turned out to be right). If anyone can find the translation, I'll give them a dollar and a big hug.
So for all that posted on the board and have had their prized philisophical discussions terminated, I'm eternally sorry.

love and a really professional sounding coconut,

im sore. how about you guys?

-we found ourselves at #5 on the usedfilm Music Photo of the Year Contest, thanks for voting and helping us out
-also a hearty thanks to the folks who came out to the Masquerade show last night. because of recording it will be some time before you find us coercing you into buying presale tickets again so you can sleep at ease.
-next show is at CJ's Landing on February 17th and is 21+, we mostly use shows like this to test out material and fine-tune our skillz, but if you know any people at or above that age we encourage you have them drop by.
-get your cronies to sign up for the mailing list if you can... perhaps we can return it to it's days of glory.
-drop by our new alae myspace page if you want to help us promote and become a street team member

i'll get one of the other guys to ramble sometime soon; being the band computer geek means that you guys probably hear from me way to often and them way too little...

So we're on top of a lot of things. We've made some good headway into recording. We have almost all the instrumental parts of five or so songs finished as well as some headway on a few others. Right about now we're starting to discuss summer options and CD release info which shall be big so keep your ear orifices wide open for future updates.

We find ourselves at number 5 in Zach Arias' "Music Photo of the Year" contest, please please please be sure to drop an email to usedfilm@gmail.com with Crumbling Arches in the subject line and get your entire family to follow suit every day until the 31st with all of their email addresses. We need as many votes as possible; we would really like to win this, some nifty prizes are at stake. More info at www.usedfilm.com/2005/

Be sure to hit up our presale page. The online presale is much cheaper than door, much easier than keeping track of a ticket, and we actually get a cut of it, so help us out and borrow a credit card or paypal account. Help us pay for our album.

Enjoy your holidays. Praise Allah.

1. happy thanksgiving. we're awefully thankful for everyone's support and help. please help us by continuing to shove us into your everyday conversations as much as possible.
2. we are happy to say that we made some headway on guitar and bass tracking the other day as well. lots left, but we are definately starting to get close to making a dent.
3. the pictures page has been redone. drop by and see the new pictures that are up if you have a chance; make a comment and let us know what you think.
4. i've decided that i am going to incorporate my love of heart pumping thrillers with my love of music, and from now on im going to see if i can disarm an active nuclear weapon whilst playing guitar, singing, and looking like a moron. multitasking my friend, multitasking.

Progress Progress. We sent Zickry into Treesound to track drums last tuesday. He was most impressive and laid down the drums for 7 tracks. Good headway. Granted, we have plenty more to track, but so far everything is sounding rather good. We took pictures which will be up soon.

On another note, we have revamped our mailing list. We really can use all the help we can get recouping our losses and getting as many people who were on the mailing list to re-sign-up as possible as well as as many new people to get us close to our old number as possible. Tell everyone you know to sign up, its only an email or two a month and they're mildly entertaining at least.

Hooray. Brian

So, the assortment of 0's and 1's that made up our mailing list has degenerated into a pile of debris. We were hosting it on another server which was in a building that burnt down so we lost a bunch of names. We'll do our best to set up a new mailing list, possibly, dare i say, better than the one we had before. We'll add in all the names that we have then we'll go on a name procuring spree to fill it up to its' original girth. We'll post it on here when the new list is up.

If any of you guys are free this weekend we highly recommend you drop by the Roxy to check out a delightful assortment of local bands supporting Habitat. Otherwise stay clean and steer clear of the elves.

Still working on booking some good stuff for November and beyond. We're really sorry about the ambiguity of our all ages atlanta shows lately, its been moving around like squirrels on a stove (not that i've tried that or anything). We'll have another one up soon enough.

Tracking has commenced. We've started with piano and ambient noises. Many of the songs are in their finishing stages of writing and scratch tracking and we should be sending good of Zickry into the studio early next month.

Something stirs beneath the surfice. Something stirs indeed.

We played our first Athens show last night at DT's Downunder with our friends Sovus Radio ( www.sovusradio.com ), one of Atlanta's most groundbreaking bands. Athens is a great town with a great indie scene. We were somewhat afraid of jam-band-affection and alt/prog rock aggression, but our fears were dispelled by the show's turnout and the crowd's response.
Next week, Crumbling Arches will be in Rome with our buddies The Sloppy Meateaters ( www.sloppymeateaters.com ) at a skate park called Skatelife. We will pleasure the Romans until their ears are smoking cigarettes. After the show, we will probably meditate on the socially awkward essence of plant fertility, and prance naked through lush fields.
